2006 Grand Cherokee 3.0d - electrical issues after battery disconnect/battery replace

Hi!

I decided to blow life into my '06 grand cherokee 3.0d this week that had been sitting disconnected from the battery for a long time (~a year). The engine turned over just fine, but I was greeted by error messages related to electrical issues (mainly transmission related):

Transmission over temp
Service 4wd system
Service elec brake system

Lights, wipers, infotainment seems to work well. The only other issue I noticed was that dashboard/center console lights were very dim.

It drives, but it seems to be in limp mode, unable to change gears, stuck in 1st.

Anyways, I consulted with my mechanic, took it to a local mechanic near my home (not specialized nor equipped to deal with U.S. cars' electrical issues) and both figured it's likely due to low voltage from the battery sitting unused for a long period of time. The local mechanic also ran a quick error code check & wipe on it, with the most noteworthy error being unable to connect to/find the transmission control unit.

I decided to just get a new battery in hopes that the last one probably died and that's what caused these problems. The battery store guy also checked the old battery and confirmed it to be drained. Bought a new battery, hooked it up to the car, but unfortunately this didn't seem to have fixed the issues.

For what it's worth - none of these issues were present before the battery disconnect and replacement.

Any ideas regarding things to try before I schedule an appointment at the mechanic and have it towed there? I'm still hoping it doesn't come to that... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
