2008 Grand Cherokee questions
I just purchased a 2008 Grand Cherokee Limited and have like 9 million questions that you’ve probably already answered a thousand times that always start an argument that ends in beating a dead horse.
why is it so difficult to find 245/60r18 all terrain tires? What sizes can I step up too with out a lift? I mean eventually it will be lifted but not for a while and I don’t plan on difficult trails for a while but it would be nice to hit a few trails on weekends when I have my kids.
Will a 17” wheel fit over the calipers? Apparently tire selection for the 17” wheels is much better.
The radio has the 30 pin apple connector for the iPhone 3g, 4, 4s... how do I adapt it to the lighting for my iPhone 10? Is there a firmware upgrade that allows music through the uconnect?
oh.. and what’s that clicking noise when I try to set the HVAC to anything but auto?
I don’t know if the signature pops up when posting from my iPhone so here goes
2008 Grand Cherokee limited
4.7l flex fuel
103,000 miles
all stock... it has zero aftermarket parts and zero modifications. Bought it from the original owner and it’s always been maintained by the local Jeep dealer. All services required at/before 100,000 miles have been done. Even the spark plugs.

The older infotainment systems tend to have a difficult time reading "Newer" USB devices, even 30-Pin Devices. For example, I had an old Bose SoundDock speaker system that I was using with an older 30-Pin 1st-Generation iPod Touch, and when I got a 3rd-Generation iPod Touch, the SoundDock wouldn't work with that newer iPod Touch. The pre-2011 U Connect systems DON'T have Bluetooth Streaming Audio (A2DP), so you CAN'T play audio wirelessly over the speakers, ONLY make phone calls using U Connect Phone.
However, there are two possible workarounds for this:
1.) Buy an SD Card. Load it up with music. Place the SD Card in the slot behind the touchscreen next to the CD/MP3/DVD/DVD Audio player. I believe you can play off of an SD Card.
2.) Get your favorite CD's together. When playing the CD's, you have the option to "Rip" the files to the System's built-in 30GB hard drive, and they remain on the radio, so you can select 'HDD' in the source menu, and play your favorite tracks off of there. You might want to burn a few CD's and name the tracks, so they'll display on the touchscreen when you play them.
You would be able to "downgrade" to a 17" tire and wheel setup. I'm guessing you have the chrome-finished wheels, but they made a 17" wheel for the Limited that wasn't chrome, and most Laredos had 17" wheels and tires as well. You'll want to go with a P245/65R17 OWL All-Terrain tire. When I had my '05 Grand Cherokee, I had Goodyear Fortera HL's on there (still have the same tires, but 20"'s, on my '14 Grand Cherokee). They give you really good traction in the snow, without compromising ride quality on dry pavement.
Not sure about the "Clicking Noise" you describe. Maybe you can record a video and link to it and someone would be able to tell you?
Hope this helps you out a bit.

thanks for the info on the wheels and tires. Since the front tires were dry rotted I bought some used ones to get me by until after Christmas when I can afford a set of 4. Yeah... I hate the chrome wheels... I didn’t like chrome wheels to start with and they absolutely do not belong on a 4x4... probably going to need a 5x5.5 to 5x4.5 adapter and use the 17” flat black D windows I bought for my F-150 that I never used that are just collecting dust in storage.
