2009 Grand Cherokee (3.7 V6) - Grinding noise when shifting to drive
UPDATE : WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP JUST NOW AS I NEEDED TO GRAB SOME THINGS FROM THE CAR. CHECKED TO SEE IF THE ISSUE WAS STILL THERE AND NOW THE NOISE IS NOT PRESENT??
Good morning all,
First time post here, so sorry if I am a miss on what the proper formatting of this post should be. My problem just happened this AM.
Was driving down the road on the way to work, as per usual, stopped in to get a coffee. Had to idle for about 5 minutes as they needed to make some more. Pulled out of the drivethru and about 200 ft down the road noticed a loud but short grinding noise. Pulling up to the stop light, as soon as I put my foot to the break the grinding noise came back, and when I was completely stopped it was extremely loud. Car would no longer move forward after this point. Noise went away when in reverse, park, neutral, and then came back when in drive.
I just had both of the CV axles and the front driveshaft rebuilt/replaced in July - the dealership put in a USED OEM mopar driveshaft which I was okay with as it was a savings of about $1,000.
The noise is only present in the front of the vehicle. As I was not able to get down on the ground due to it being a busy road where the car was disabled, I was unable to check to see if the CV axle was spinning/not spinning. Nothing obvious that I could see from the hood. The noise, similar forum posts, and the fact that I just had the front end rebuilt lead me to believe that it's something either to do with the CV axles. driveshaft or wheel bearing, but hoping to hear from people who may have had a similar issue in the past on what it is.
Car was towed to the dealership so all is good there now, just waiting to call them when they open. For what it's worth, it's been an amazing ride! Up until July, it hasn't had to have any significant work done, and this is its first time EVER on a tow truck
Many thanks in advance for your guys help, and have a great Saturday!
