4.0 to 5.2 swap
I have 2 1993 jeep grand Cherokee's one has the 4.0 and the other has a 5.2
Both have a few issues so im wantin to put the 5.2 in to the 4.0 cherokee.
Just was wondering what all will have to be swaped over to make it work.
Also how hard it might be.

The 4.0 is so much easier to maintain/fix/work on... Why dont you fix the 4.0?

You'll be getting in over your head because of the electronics and unless you swap tranny and transfer as well, they may not mate.
JMHO, fix the 4.0. Or, fix the 5.2. Your choice.

The 4.0's transmission is out ans the 5.2s frame is weak. So i wanted to try to us what i already have instead of buying a transmission or having it rebuilt. Thought since they were the same year that mybe i could put them side by side in the garage and make it work.

Swap the 5.2 plus trans in the 4.0 body. You will need the engine wire harness with the 5.2 also. Dont forget the ecm. You will probably need new motor mounts also. Everything else should mate up from there. I'm sure there is something I forgot but this can be done.

I'm sorry, Countryboy's right. Your 93 is only OBD1 so the electronics are a lot simpler. IF you ever wanted to change transfer cases, now would be the time for it.

this is more of a PITA than its worth. find a 5.2 ZJ with a blown up motor or trans but a good body for cheap and put your 5.2 parts on it. and part out your 4.0 ZJ.

My thought exactly. You may run into problems with things like spline count and driveshaft u-joint mismatch. Also, the D35 axle isn't very strong to begin with and probably won't last long with your 5.2 twisting it.
