42re helpp urgent
so i drove to my friends and everyhing was good...parked it went to go out and no 1st gear. It started off in i think 3 gear and would only downshift to second. I am getting code 45 and it flashes twice. Any helkp will be good, kinda blows cause i have to go to class and dont know if i should drive it. its a 97 grand cherokee 4.0 42re selec trac

ive searched and only found this Trans temperature/ Governor pressure voltage out of range. Less than 1.55 or above 3.73volts for temperature and less than .1 or above 4.89 volts. Trans temp. to high or low. OD switch input too low for more than 5 mins.

Sounds like you need to have trans shop take a look at it. Maybe other members can chime in on this. Sounds like it could just be a sensor.

yea its going tommorw im just pissed cause i drive 40 miles a day to school and i dont want it to give out on me...i might just opt for a rebuild the fluid smells kinda burnt and theres 90000 thousand on it and i know that there not really well known for longevity

I hope it is a simple fix, but it doesn't sound like it. Unfortunately, mechanical items fail, and there's nothing we can do about it. However, if you do end up needing a rebuild, at least you'll have a warranty on the trans for a while...hopefully.

yea the guy my family goes to gives a year full warranty towing to his shop included...i sorta knew it was coming i hope its not more than 1200

well turns out it was only a solinoid and its all fixed...frsh fluid filter and 300 bucks and the jeeps back on the road

just curious does code 42 for the automatic shutdown relay come on when the tranny goes into imp mode..my jeep drives fine so im thinking the mechanic forgot to clear the computer

If your Jeep is driving fine, it's probably that he forgot to clear the code. I'm GLAD that it was something simple!
