46RH 4x4 VS 46RH 2WD

The rear output aluminum casting parts for a 2WD and 4WD 46RH transmission are different. The 4WD has a flange used to mount the transfer case, the 2WD tapers down to a cone for just the shaft seal.
It should be possible to swap that output casting to make a 2WD 46RH usable for a 4WD application.
Note that the starter side is different for different vehicle manufacturer.

So in theory, can I remove the overdrive unit and tail housing from the 2wd and bolt up the overdrive unit from the 4x4 and everything will play “nice” as long as they are both from a Grand Cherokee 93’/95’?

May need to swap the output shafts also, requires complete disassembly of the O/D section to do.

Ok, for my next question. Can all of the innards of a 46RE be swapped into a 46RH case? Except for the valve body, I know they are different. My 46RH has something broken internally and until I get it dropped tomorrow I won’t know the extent of it but, I think the sprag or one of the drums are broke.
i mainly need the parts that don’t come in the rebuild kits.
