5.2 Oil Pump Question

5.2 Oil Pump Question
Hello,
I am new to the forum and new to Jeep products. Currently I am replacing the rear main seal on a 1998 Grand Cherokee with a 5.2. It has been 20 years since I have rebuilt any kind of engine so my question is this. When removing the oil pump, I noticed there was no gasket between the pump and the rear main cap. Due to the mileage, I decided to replace the oil pump since everything was already torn down and easy access. The new pump came with a gasket. In searching through forums and youtube videos, no one talks about this gasket except on the 4.0. Looking at parts supply websites, none show this gasket available for purchase.
So, on the 5.2 does it need a gasket or no gasket? Or did the factory assemble the oil pump using a sealant like Loctite 515 or similar?
Regards,
R

Welcome to the forum.
When I removed / replaced the oil pump on my 5.2L there was no gasket. The FSM does not specify a gasket.
This reply shows the only way to remove / replace the 5.2L oil pan w/o extra steps.
This reply details my first and second rear main seal replacement.
Don't forget to prime the pump prior to installation.

I used the gasket on my 5.9 but it didn't have one to begin with, it really doesn't matter if it leaks a little bit there because it just goes back into the oil pan.
