Maybe a slight exageration, although I think $200 is on the cheap side. Still though.
your kidding right?

it probably costs chrysler 20 bucks to make each hitch (maybe less than that)
and say they pay the tech a half hour to install it. depending on labor rate, thats still probably less than 100 bucks

You will get a notice in the mail when the recall finally takes place.

Here's another thing. I was rearended in my 67 Camero by a Ford truck going 45 mph when I was stopped. The tank was right behind the bumper and the car was shortened by about 4". The tank didn't leak and I drove it home. It was a steel tank that filled through the rear panel. The force of the collision broke the bolts holding the driver's seat to the floor. IF the tank was going to rupture, I'm sure it would have. It was pushed against the rear axle and distorted.

Maybe a slight exageration, although I think $200 is on the cheap side. Still though. You want to push this so hard to fix these people's vehicles. For what? A tank skid and a hitch aren't going to guarantee that it won't be rearended hard enough to bust the tank.

If you want to make the road safer go make a petition to crack down on cell phone use while driving. Or how bout making it harder to get your license in the first place? If you're spending thousands on this, out of pocket, you're a fool. Go do something useful.
Exactly. I agree 110%

Don't forget the engineering & testing time involved in developing a fix, tooling for a production line to make the parts. Cost of distribution to dealers, and cost of notification of ALL affected vehicle owners. Having spent time employed at a dealership, and manufacturing companies, what manufacturer would deem so few deaths, caused under such extenuating circumstances to warrant such an expenditure for vehicles of which a large majority are 10-20 years old? Are the original posters high? And when Chrysler goes broke AGAIN-trying to serve the whim of some misguided liberal do-gooders working in concert with a government agency-we can all bail them out AGAIN, because that's what taxpayers are for.

P.S. Ralph Nader is a damn tool. EDIT-also, a self-important pompous ******* with delusions of grandeur.

Also, I may be somewhat young, but even I remember the scam with the GM truck side-saddle tanks allegedly catching fire. Same EXACT situation here. NBC just hasn't had a chance to put their stamp of fake journalism on it yet.

And Ralph Nader is a flipping tool.

When Nader told VW that the original Beetle was unsafe, VW laughed at him! They had used that rear suspension since 1938 and this was what, 1962?

My dad was rear ended in a 70 Pinto - totalled the car, but he drove it home
and we pulled the motor and trans and installed in another Pinto.

I'll may have to agree with Nader about the Corvair being unsafe at any speed,
but then again, it may have just been my nebie-ness of driving (16 and driving for about a week) that I lost control while going around a wet corner to fast.

Now that's funny! Every Corvair I've seen in the junk yard was smashed in the rear! They WERE tail-heavy and liked to spin out. GM's thoughts were good, but exacusion was not. Ever see a rear motor mount break and the engine fall out?
