('93-'96 ZJs) Post your cut open fuel filters
Seems fuel filter companies love withholding any useful information from consumers. I emailed a couple dozen and got almost no useful information (Baldwin was the most responsive).
I have a plan to do some filtration tests, but in the meantime, I'm hoping people might post a bit of info about their old and new filters when doing a replacement.
I'm confident that any major brand fuel filter will perform fine, but it would still be nice to be able to make more informed choices here.
Here's my old filter, a Purolator F64816 from late 2016.
Most of the internal rusting is from sitting outside for a few days after cutting open, but the paint lifting up was like that when I opened it. Lots of missing paint too, so I imagine a lot of it ended up blocking the filter or going to the injectors.
Weight: ~183 grams (weighed used and after cutting open).
Pleats: Cellulose probably, 110 pleats, 75x13 mm each. Steel cap.
Case: Steel, 0.7 mm thickness.
The paint peeling inside removes this from my list of brands to consider in the future. Outside of that, it seems to be acceptable quality. The filter media is a bit thin, and as you can see in the microscope shot, there are plenty of larger voids to allow contaminants through. I don't have my replacement yet, but I'll probably get a Baldwin and will post it here.
