98 limited zj over heat
well i just bought this jeep and i have no overheat prob on the road its when i stop at a light for a while or go to wendys to order food. i just replaced the t stat today and left the rad cap off and cranked her up i have no water flow infact the water overflows out the top of radiator where cap goes instead of going down like normal what could this be any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks

The 5.9L runs hotter than the other engines. I'd make sure the electric cooling fan* is coming on correctly, at the right temps. If that isn't the problem, I'd flush the radiator, and check out the water-pump.

If yours has the Max Cooling package with the electric fan, there should be a temp. sensor in both the upper and lower rad. hoses. Plus there are fuses and 2 (a hi-speed and a lo-speed) relays that control the fan.

ok yeah it has the electric fan i found the sensor on the lower hose coming from water pump but thats the only one i have seen so far. i still think i have clogged radiator though since im not getting any movement when i have my cap off the coolant just sits there and after a while it actually starts over flowing from the cap area

hmm now its making sense y i have a random electric line just laying on top of engine i bet he unplugged it and just put a normal old rad hose for the top line that goes from rad to thermostat

well i need to check my water pump now i let the truck warm up today with the rad cap on and water started coming out of my upper rad hose where it connects to the radiator the bottom line from water pump going to rad was warm but the top hose that goes to t stat was cold so was the water that was flowing out of it

i just replaced my t-stat but i pressure checked my radiator its not holding pressure so its at the local rad shop getting fixed right now thats prob why my coolant is not circulating cause its not holding pressure
