'99 4.7L WJ New Fan Clutch Crazy Loud
Ok, so I've been having A/C issues and temperature creep issues with my '99 but only recently. It usually runs right below 210 even sitting still in traffic but recently I noticed it creep up above 210 (not close to overheating but enough to make me get back out on the highway to cool it down just in case). The radiator was replaced within the last 6 months. I went to AutoZone and got a Torqflow clutch with a lifetime warranty. After replacement, the fan NEVER cuts off. The day after I put it in, I drove about 100 miles doing 75 on the highway and it never cut off and even squealed when I hit overdrive (not sure why). I was used to the old OEM fan sounding like a jet for the first 20 or 30 seconds and then quieting down. Now I drive a turbo jet all the time. On the flip-side, at 100 degrees, the A/C worked the whole way and the temperature never creeped up but I lost a ton of power. It felt like I was driving a V6 O.o.
Now I don't know if I should keep the Torqflow (is there a "break in" period) or go a get an OEM clutch. With the engine off, I can maybe spin the fan 1/8 of a rotation (a bit less than my old clutch) so I was thinking it may just be a bad part an be locked up.
Any advice is welcome. I enjoy my A/C but with the massive loss of power and annoying jet engine sound I'm not sure I can take it!!!

They are supposed to lock up when hot. But should be quiet after the initial startup. You could take it back and swap it. See if new unit does the same thing.

After the trip back home, it started to run like it was supposed to so maybe there is a break in period. I'll keep an eye on it.

I know if they are stored flat or something it can cause issues. Not sure of the mechanics of that, but glad yours sorted itself out. I kinda wish my 5.9 had a fan cluctch instead of the elec, at idle my ac gets hot until the high speed kicks in or I start moving.
