It's my understanding that it takes a special code reader to TS the ABS system and is a dealer only deal. No problems or any issues here, just kind of antsy here. Any special procedure to flush/refill brake fluid? 1998 GC/4.0 Thanks

The ABS light means there is an electrical issue with the ABS system. Flushing the fluid won't fix the problem. Any shop with a scan tool can read the ABS codes, some of those cheap code readers may also be able to read ABS codes. Not a dealer only problem.

there any special steps to changing brake fluid just as a normal maintenance step. My Haynes/Chilton books of fairy tales doesn't cover this very well. Thanks

The best way is to use a pressure bleeder and start at the right rear, left rear, right front, and finish with the left front. You don't want to pump the pedal to flush the system, pushing the pedal to the floor can damage the seals in the master cylinder.

your abs light will flash or stay on for a while also if the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) , or any of your 4 wheel speed sensors are acting up / going out. the speed sensors monitor the turning of your wheels and if one of them doesn't match up with the other 3 sensors, it will light up your abs light. on my 97 gc 4.0L , my vehicle speed sensor and my 4 individual wheel speed sensors are tied in together on the abs system. i do not know if your's is. just something else to check out. a worn rotor can cause this also.

when my abs light started acting up , i discovered i was in the beginning stages of low voltage symptoms with my battery. it can mess with your gauges and warning lights / signals. not saying this is your problem. but, wouldn't hurt to check your charging system for how many volts your battery is throwing out. it always helps to start trouble shooting with the easy steps first.
