ABS light won't go off
Up front...I'm not a cherokee person, it's my wife's pride and joy, 1994 Grand Cherokee Limited-got it from the estate of a little old lady (for real!) and other than a 2" lift kit to replace sagging springs it's pretty much all original. Our current problem-the ABS light comes on, have had everything serviced, just had the rear brakes done and e-brake pads and adjusters.
Can someone tell me what the indicator light is saying-is there a problem somewhere else in the system our mechanic hasn't found? Running a code reader they find nothing.
Thanks!

Several 'ask forums' I googled say to replace the ABS module or pump...is this something I can do (or talk my mechanical son into doing) and about how expensive is it? Hate to take it to the local dealer...they are up to $80 or $90 per hour and do not 'hustle' at all on diagnostic checking. Would rather try replacing suggested parts to see if that fixes it first.

You should check all the fuses, wheel sensors, tone rings & wiring for any damage or loose connections before going any further.
It could be the ABS pump: that's about $400 to have fixed at the dealer. The pump is over $200.
The dealer or someone with the special scanner can tell you if it's the ABS pump. Anyone familiar with doing brake lines can replace the pump but it's a pain to bleed that system correctly afterward.
It could be the diode in the ABS wiring harness in the dash area.
If you have a FSM w/wiring diagrams it will show you the diode in the harness.
And Welcome to CF.

Ok, I just fixed my 95 ZJ's ABS problem today and here is what I found. The ABS data link connector is under the cig lighter behind the carpet, it's an 8 pin connector, but you need the Snap-on Chrysler #2 data connector that is only 6 pins. Plug the scanner in and read the code, then start from there. My code was #32 left rear speed sensor circuit failure. I traced the circuit from the lr wheel to under the left side rear seat and checked the connections. Traced the wiring from the ABS module and found the wires kind of kinked under the washer bottle, but not broken or shorted. I looked behind the driver side kick panel and found the plug for the ABS sensors had a loose connection, so loose it came apart in my hands. Plugged it in tight and the problem is solved. Look at that connector first, it's about 3/4 of an inch square wit a pair of light green wires, a pair of yellow wires, and two pairs of other wires. They're rather thin wires and each pair is twisted. Hope all of this helps you out.

ABS Issue
Ok, my ABS light is continuously on ever since my mechanic ripped out an old alarm system. My question is - is my 1994 the same make up - as the 1995 quoted in this post? Mine is: 1994 Jeep Grand CHerokee 5.2L with ABS system. Thanks, Thomas

When I did my u-joints my ABS light came on and never left. I thought I had banged my wheel speed sensors but I finally got to taking them out and they look just fine.
My question is, if I bent the teeth or the ring on the axle would that make the light go on?
My wheel speed sensors look pretty good little rust and grime but nothing crazy. The connections under the hood look brand new when I took them out. Any insight???

Welcome to the forum. Be careful to not fall off the wall.
Next time open a new topic for your specific problem.
The Mopar DRB II tool is the way to ID the problem source. There is a diagnostic connector hidden under the carpet on the hump above the gas pedal.
There are multimeter tests that can be performed on the wheel speed sensors.

Thanks, I thought about making a new thread, but I came across this site via this thread and it seemed appropriate to respond here.
I see that that tool says 1963-1994, my jeep is a 1998 would it still work? After a quick look up seems that these scanners are in the 1000 dollar plus range, anything a bit more wallet friendly?

The 1998 Jeep requires the DRB III tool.
The Chrysler Teves ABS Manual for your vehicle has useful information on ABS diagnostics.
The FSM for your vehicle also has useful information.
