Default AIR BAG

I have a pre-owned Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 6 in L 1994 model.- The Air Bag light in the dash is always ON, as soon I put the contact key in ON position.
Is there any basic check out I can do before go to the "Official Technical Service" '' Thanks in advance ¡

All the electrical circuits on the steering wheel go thru a "clockspring" around the hub. With constant flexing, the wires in it often break. The Body Control Module is telling you the circuit for the airbag firing squib is an open circuit, meaning it won't inflate in an accident. You can check the plugs on the bottom of the steering hub, but don't hold your breath. A DRBIII scan tool will tell if the circuit is good or not. It cost me $625 USD to get mine fixed at a dealer. DO NOT APPLY VOLTAGE to the contacts on the hub or you may get a facefull of plastic bag! The "squib" is an explosive charge.

The 1994 ZJ uses a DRB II tool, as-shown in this topic.

The vehicle has three scan tool connectors, one under the hood near the PCM for the engine, one in the cabin on the hump above the gas pedal for the ABS and one on the hump by the passenger seat for the air bag.

The DRB II tool permits examining the fault codes and resetting those codes, assuming the fault has been cleared.

Oh right! OBDI right? The DRBIII, used on OBDII systems, will scan all the systems thru the one data port. It even told me which ABS sensor was bad!

Do these have a fuse that can make the airbag light come on if bad, corroded or loose?

It's possible. The PCM does data sweeps of all systems constantly thru the PCI data bus. One of these checks is continuity of the circuits in the airbag system. If a fault is found, the BCM turns the light on.

I know my 94 Ram has one I have to pull every time I disable the airbag to load my Grand-kids in. The light comes on and stays on until I shut it all down and put the fuse back to re-enable it then the light goes out and stays out.
