So you're saying it's hidden inside? So that's why I haven't seen it. So how do you put a new one in? If you need a new tail light assembly, it'll have to be NOS or a junkyard part.

You just have to be careful, and know what you're doing.

So.....I've worked in plastics all my life and you're telling me I don't know what I'm doing? I seriously think you like messing with me.

Hey....dude....you're the electronics genius, I'm the mechanical grunt. Let's work together.

Roger .. "recieved''

I am unwilling to accept genius title though. I just try to think of the things that make sense.

I recently had a similar issue, and yes Dave, Noah is correct there is a circuit board In the stock assembles of the WJ they can be quite infuriating. Anyway what I had found is that you can either buy the circuit board and attempt a transplant into the old housing, or what I did, go to a self serve part store (i.e. a pick-a-part, you-pull, pick-n-pull, etc) and get a functioning assembly. I took a jumper box and a friend to verify that when I pressed on the pedal that the light worked before leaving with another broken part. Before doing anything though I'd verify to see if its the circuit board by taking the known good tail light from the other side and plugging it into the problem sides harness, the pigtail will fit, but obviously the whole assembly will not, so just set it inlace or have someone hold it there while you try the breaks. The rest should be common sense but if it works than the problem assembly is bad, if it dose not, than your wiring is the problem and you'll need to diagnose with a multi-meter.

I think that is an excellent idea! Trying to swap out the taillight assembly sides like that as a way to test.
