Characteristics of RMS leak?

Update -
The owner reports that the Jeep is no longer leaking. I don't know if there was some residual oil in the bell housing, or the seal needed to "seat" itself, or what, but he's been putting a pan underneath and it's been dry. One thing that I still don't understand, is that I filled the oil to the top of the dipstick, even a little bit over, and a few weeks later, it was halfway down between the two marks and now seems to have stabilized. It did pass Colorado emissions recently.
