Crank but no start!!!!
Hello I have a 1993 jeep grand with the 318ci and this was happening once in a while but now it's occurring more often, and just like the title says, my jeep is cranking but no start, sometimes it takes it 4 tries and other times it's just two tries, I don't know if this is relevant but when the engine is running there's a hissing sound which sounds like it might be coming from the fuel injector o rings but not sure yet, since I've purchased it a year ago I still haven't replaced spark plugs or wires either, any help is appreciated
Gracias

Have you checked for fuel leaks?

Check for leaks, that hissing sound maybe causing fuel to spray out and not into the engine. Lack of fuel, lack of running. Have you done the basic checks to the starting and charging system (i.e. battery, starter, alternator)? A battery cable may not have a good connection and intermittently causing a problem or battery corrosion can affect performance under high load situations such as starting.

Did you test the battery by load testing it or just by putting a volt meter on it? If you did the latter then you'd want to try the former. Are you sure your battery cables are making complete contact with your battery terminals? I only ask because I recently ran into the issue with mine where the terminals would be as tight as they could go but weren't making complete contact with the battery terminals. It caused me to have to crack a couple times before it would turn over.

Creature's right. It's possible either the battery doesn't have the ***** to carry the load of the starter AND the rest of the system, or your terminals aren't making adequate contact. A way you can tell is turn on your parking lights and then crank it. If the dash lights go out while cranking, you don't have the load capacity.
One of the major problems with the terminals is the lead stretches and the gap between the ends at the bolt disappear, making it appear tight, but not giving enough contact. This can be cured by trimming the ends at the bolt or replacing the terminal or complete cable, your choice.
If your terminals are weak, the starter load will melt enough lead to make contact after a few tries, allowing you to start it. JMHO, however.

I had the same issue last week. And a new battery solved all my problem. But my battery just pulled 9.7 V on voltmeter, so I didn't even think it needs a load test. BTW, my crank didn't slow even though the battery was weak, it just turned over fine.
And long cranking can usually mean CPS is starting to fail. If there are no sparks when cranking, CPS should be checked.
