^ Very true. The steering damper will mask the real issue.

The trackbar is the first place to look for loose or worn parts.
Next is the 8 control arm bushings.
When that steering damper wears out, the wobble will likely be worse than before.

Steering dampeners ARE NOT SHOCKS. They are valved 50/50, so they have the same amount of resistance when extending or collapsing.

They do not stabilize anything, they dampen. No more, no less.

Adding a new dampener will not cure/prevent Death Wobble.
Removing one will not cause Death Wobble.

Find the ROOT CAUSE....and fix it.

Brew you shouldn't really argue with experts on the subject. A stabilizer is simply hiding your death wobble. It did not cure the problem.

The thing is You are wrong. You seem to be the kind of guy that needs to get the last word in.

A steering stabilizer will not cure dw. Mask it? Yes. Cure? Never. That's like saying the little blue pill cures ed. Nope it just masked it. A properly set up steering system doesn't even need a stabilizer.
Btw I'm a 12 year master tech.

^Exactly, the variety of fixes is always the same. the trackbar, its bushings, brackets, or mounting hole (wallowed out of round). The upper control arm bushings and LCA bushings. Then we move onto wheelbearings, steering system, tires etc.

definitely the last word.. we want to make sure the next guy like you who has death wobble who googles his problem doesn't see your response and think thats his fix. I bet your track bar bushing and tre are shot to all hell. Thats not safe, but dont take our advice. You tried something the shop didnt recommend (because they knew it wasn't the cure) and you think it worked so all of a sudden your opinion matters.

I get what you're saying "it worked for me so it might work for someone else " but you're plain flat out wrong. Tell my stabilizer less jeep how to fix its death wobble.. oh wait.. it doesnt have it

Easy now Brew.
We are really trying to help and pass along our hands on experiance.
Our posts are direct and factual, nothing more.
Think you need a shop that is more familiar with solid axles.
Other vehicles get DW also.

what makes me an "expert" in this? how about the fact i have been doing it for 12 years? how about the fact i was an off road aftermarket parts installer? how about the fact i have studied every part of the steering and suspension systems on jeeps? we can also go with the fact that i have installed aftermarket systems and even built my own that did not require a dampener. so the shop you took it to was full of tards that had no idea what the hell they where doing. that turns you into the dampener expert?

serious up there is a suspension parts seller. he has read into how things are built and how they work. that makes him an expert also.

you starting by calling it a shock...... that makes you an instant noob. but you want to call us bullies because we are stating facts?

also keep trying to put in the last word, if it involves one more attack on mechanics i can assure you i will have the last word.
