Died. New battery keeps going dead
Hi I have a 1996 jeep Cherokee and won't start with out holding the foot to the floor. And the warmer it gets the less likely it is too start. It runs 210 but if you shut it off it won't start. Please help new cap and roter, new injectors, just did a head gasket, has good compression, good fuel pressure. Please help thanks

Hi everyone I am new to the forum. I was hoping i could get some help on on a problem im having with a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. The car stopped running while driving on a friend and she has said once i get it running its mine. It wouldnt crank at first so i bought a new battery. A week after i put the battery in it was dead again. I had to jump it to get it to crank but it still wouldnt turn over. It is getting fuel and air so i believe it is a spark issue. I also changed the crank position sensor. Weird thing is it throws no codes and has the check engine light and key light on. If anyone could help i would greatly appreciate it!

Guessing you checked the charging aystem, or drove it to an auto parts store and had them check it?
You're in the right place. Someone knows what you're going through.

Thanks Pe Pop! I will check it out this weekend and hopefully solve the problem. Also thanks 00' XJ for the links. Unfortunately already paid a locksmith to reprogram the key so that cost a good amount. Oh well though hopefully i can figure it out through process of elimination!

Old fart with a wrench
Isn't it nice that someone jacked this thread? What happened to Zach's question?

Ah, of course Dave. My apologies Zach. I didn't look far enough. Bit distracted. Outside; nothing between here and the horizon but landscape and hot SW wind, 86 degrees. Damn bright out here. Shoulda looked closer before responding. Fallible of me.
Thanks for pointing that out.

When my 1996 XJ did this repeatedly, the culprit was the coolant temperature sensor. It had a bad connection at plug. I cleaned the connection and never had that issue again.

When you have to floor the accelerator to get jeep to start, that is a sign of fuel flood. Holding the pedal to floor on startup cancels the injector pulses so that flood can clear.

So the mechanic that was working on my Jeep was convinced that it was a security issue with the key so i called a locksmith. The locksmith cut/programmed a new key and now the Jeep wont even crank over. Feel like i've gone a step back in the process

so now the same company came out and said it was a bad ignition immobilizer. Anyone have any info on if that would be the cause?
