Default door switch and wiring issue

hello everyone,

vehicle information
96 jeep grand cherokee limited
4.0l engine
automatic trans
2wd

issue:
windows not going up or down ( see details below)
doors not locking with switches on any door or when the auto lock engages while driving.

The windows is the real problem here, for example today 3 of the 4 windows worked (all but the drivers front) when i got home the only one that worked was the back drivers, After a bit i got the drivers side to roll up but the other side windows are still not going up.

What I've done:

I looked at the wiring the best I could and all looked good, but I am far from good working with electrical stuff it bothers me.

I was told by a place that it was probably the door switch. Well tried replacing that today, the new switch is having the same issues so its probably not the switch.

So I am back to thinking there's a wire issue somewhere which I assume is in the drivers side door somewhere. I can see inside the door and it looks like going to the door jam it can be removed, but I've never been able to get the wire harness part out of the door when its open. I am not sure what i am doing wrong. It appears if I can get that disconnected there I could get a real good look at the wires. Not sure if you can disconnect it from the other side going into the vehicle under the dash or not, one video made it look like it could but that was also for a different year and what I've learned is the 1996 is different than all the other years.

So my questions are:

How do i disconnect the harness from the door side when the door is open? I can't get it pulled out, that white plastic part I just can not get out to reveal the part with the clip so it can be removed.

If anyone has a link to a good video or how to pictures that would be greatly appreciated.

Whats the easiest and safe way to make this repair, I can see someone has been in it before (and not to replace the speakers) unless its common for wires to be put together with electrical tap. Saw two like that, one had the two wires connected underneath it, the second one had nothing wrong with the wires they just was taped together for some reason, both small wires.

Thank You all

Ryan

Oh, electrical tape. That's a bad sign. When you do the repairs, use good quality nylon butt connectors. Don't buy the El Cheapo kits you find in the auto parts stores. Those things are junk.

Sorry I can't help ton the wiring. I have not had to dig into mine yet.

The common problem is broken wire(s) in the door jamb boot.

Mine was repaired by moving the boot, soldering in jumper wires and covering w heat shrink.

That was as fun as it sounds.

This topic shows my door jamb wiring repair.

hello,

not sure how or if its possible. I thought I had seen somewhere that you could remove the wires that go from the door jam into the vehicle itself from under the dash. I was not able to see good enough under the dash to see if there was a disconnect somewhere so I could pull out the wires from the door jam and boot.

I did however remove the wires that are connected at the door. I will put up some pictures but I have questions if anyone knows what the wires go too.

In the one picture you can see two wires taped together they are purple and white with a black stripe.

Then further up there are two wires that are cut off. they are solid green and a red with black striped. the problem with these two wires as they are about 3-4 inches from the part that plugs into the door jam but where they are cut off i don't find the wire anywhere else on the harness.

The next offshoot has a blue and white wire and plugged into something behind door frame, maybe some kind of motor possibly for the window i could not see in there good enough.

Then there is a split. the large part ran down to the door switch. Then it continues and there are three offshoots. The single one went to the door panel light. Then there are two that split off and they went inside the door i assume one for the lock on top and not sure what the other one plugged into or what that plug was for. the top wire had two wires a orange one with a black stripe. that one looks like its been split one and taped back together only there was no tape on it. the other pink with a black line is taped right now.

All these are shown in the pictures if anyone can tell me what to look for.

Is there a color diagram for what each wire does thats easy to understand? That might help in figuring out what wires to focus on.

Is it possible to remove the wires that connect to this connection that goes into the vehicle so they can be pulled out like this cable was. I mean everything looked good but you can only see part of the wires. I would assume if it has a connection that can be unplugged inside the vehicle the wires from there should be fine. I'd like to remove this part of wires and inspect them as well if possible.

Thanks

Ryan

Wow!

Removing the vehicle wiring harness from the vehicle is not the first step in the problem resolution. Sure, skip A, B + C and jump right to Z...

The requested information is in the vehicle / model year specific Factory Service Manual, FSM. The FSM has detailed wiring diagrams.

I removed the wire to be able to easily look for broken wires inside the house. Which is why I am trying to figure out how to do the same with the other wires from the door to inside the house. Since a broken wire is common thats what I am looking for.

Its very hot outside in Florida and I can not handle the heat for more than a few minutes.

I don't understand the electrical diagrams, I am not sure why I just don't get them
