Default Electrical issues

Hi Im new to the group. I have a 2013 grand cherokee limited. Ive seen similar posts but i came here for advice. I have intermittent electrical issues. My steering wheel controls for radio, including turn signals and horn, interior lights, and also power outlet in rear seat area goes in and out. It is very sporadic. Also If they are working i can open a door and they will go out. Been going crazy with this thing. Nothing else is affected. Any ideas.

It might be a few different reasons to cause this issue you are experiencing..

1)- First thing to do is disconnect the battery for awhile. I would just let it sit overnight and then reconnect it back up the following morning to be sure, but at least 15 - 20 minutes minimum timeframe. This could re-set things back to normal if it is a wacky fluke? This is the easiest and cheapest thing you could try.

2)- The cruise control button switch. This is actually a likely reason too. The cruise control switch is a pass through to all of the remaining buttons on the wheel. Even though the cruise itself may work fine.. the output pin may not be providing power or comms to everything else remaining in and on this circuit.

3)- The clock spring may be faulty and needing to be replaced. If this is bad? It could result in the same similar symptoms as you are experiencing. I read reports from other people saying their clock spring went bad in their Jeeps. Replacing their clock spring resolved the same similar type of issues as you are experiencing with the controls not working on the steering wheel. (I don't even know what a clock spring is though, but it is what I read...)

Hello CrazyJeep49,
We certainly understand your frustration. Given that we are not technically trained, we do rely on our dealers to be our eyes and ears in the field. If you decide to address this concern with your local dealer and would like additional assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out privately.

I agree with Noah's recommendations. Best places to start. Even when it's a long shot (like disconnecting the battery) a free and easy fix is the first place to go.

Oh, and a word about JeepCares. I have no idea what his (her? it?) game is. It posts here every now and then, acting as if it's some official Jeep customer care entity, or something. It's not. It's either a scam of some kind (likely), or just a nutcase. Best to just ignore it completely.

That is nice of you to care about Jeeps Laura.

However, I believe that in most cases; simply based on what I have heard many other people exclaiming to me personally, through internet forums and various different vehicle specific websites, and several close friends of mine who are also in my opinion top notch reputable independent mechanics... The dealer will rip you off! They will overcharge you to make a profit on parts. They will overcharge you up to hundreds of dollars per hour on ridiculous unnecessary diagnostics fees. They will charge you for things that are not needing to be done. They will do the most minimum of work and charge the most maximum of prices. They will tell you that your vehicle is fixed when it is not. They will tell you your vehicle was fixed.. and in fact it is not, AND the vehicle will be returned to you with multiple other new problems now being present that were not there before.. and the original problem will still remain.

I could go on and on and on... I will stop right there though. Outside of MAYBE having the dealers help me out with fixing possibly a warrenty issue, I would not ever even consider having any of my vehicles serviced by any dealer. Maybe that is just me?

I am not saying you do not care. It sounds like maybe you do? Except, I am not sure you are in the business of actually doing the servicing to maintain vehicles are you? Its not your fault. I am not attacking you personally in any way.

It's likely related to things that are outside of your control. It is profits margins and inadequately trained technicians who have no real desire to do the work appropriately.

I took a brand new Honda VFR800 into the dealer once for its complimentary first service. Guess what? When I got it home after picking the bike up.. I noticed a dent and a large scratch on my Interceptors gas tank. It was not there prior to the dealer putting their hands on it. They of course denied it!

If I was not on a respectable public forum like this. I may feel obligated to give you my real opinion to tell you how I really feel.. not at all being directed in any way towards you personally.

Good thinking.

Might also be a bad ground shared with the courtesy light circuit.
