I have a engine knock, it sounds like it may be coming from the lower end of the motor. Its a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2 v8, it has 108000 miles on it, I bought it used so I'm not sure how the maintenance was of the vehicle from the previous owner. The knock sounds as if you take a hammer to the block and hit about every 10 seconds up to a minute, untill it reaches operating temp. Its only one single knock at a time and doesn't sound like lifters you cant really make the sound happen it does it intermittently . I put stp additive in it which made the noise stop. I know its not fixed, just masked. Does anyone have anything of the the same issue or possibly the cause and a fix thanks much appreciated.

If you pull one plug wire off at a time and the knock disappears it will tell you if it's in that cylinder indicating a rod bearing is bad. Other than that I'd pull the pan and start checking mains and rod bearings before it craps out on you and tears up more stuff.

Thanks I appreciate the advice, I will try that and hopefully see a fix there or at least be closer to one. Hopefully a cheap simple fix but my luck probably not. SMH.
