OK, i'm at the end of my rope. We have a 2012 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. It's been to the shop 4 times because the engine light keeps coming on. They say it throws no codes. Autozone of all places hooked it up and it said crank shaft sensor. No change in the way the car is running but we're coming out of a rash of issues with our last car so we're trying to correct the problem before it gets worse. The Jeep Dealership said no issues. Another shop said timing chain. My husband tore it down and the chain is in time with no slack. What would cause the light to keep coming on but not throw a code?

Get yourself a code reader if you havent already and see if you get a crank sensor code as Autozone did. If they got a code, the rest of them should have got one as well. Including the dealer. Unless someone erased the code it should still be in there, stored by the PCM. Even if it was erased, it will come back if it keeps happening. You will need the exact code to diagnose it anyway, or you can fire the parts cannon blindly and hope that takes care of it. It could be the sensor or the wiring, or something with the PCM. Or another sensor affecting another sensor. Everything is connected in some way at some point on newer vehicles like yours.
