He could have a turbo diesel, they are just a bit more rare and we aren't used to hearing about them on this forum.

Default Turbo in Grand Cherokee Jeep - Yep

Grand Cherokee 4x4 2.7 CRD and it seems to have a Turbo. Chrysler confirmed the C clip and is now on order. Being a late Mk IV the clip may be a late mod to improve the flange design as fractured bolts & manifold pipes have been mentioned on other news threads. We'll see when the job is done.

So you don't use what we call "gas" do you? You use diesel, correct?

That is why you have a turbo, yours is a bit different than most here are used to dealing with.

Hi TimC;

How did the fix go?

My downpipe has just separated from the back of the Turbo, filling the engine bay with soot - as well as being noisy!

I'd be interested to hear how you got on.

Default Exhaust Fumes in Cabin

The problem turned out to be a 'C' clip that held the connect between the manifold & turbo into position but allowed movement. That's how I understood it. The garage said they recognized it as similar to a Mercedes arrangement.
The fix including parts was around £100 ( ~1-2 hour labour including chasing Chrysler for part number).

This wasn't a dealer but a 'good small garage' and reputation. Great to breath the air again!

Thanks for the clarification. The Mercedes link certainly makes sense as that's where the 5-cyl unit comes from. As none of the local motor factors list that part and my nearest dealer is 40 miles away I think I'll try Mansfield 4x4.

Yeah, it's got a lot to do with the fact that fuel here is equivalent to about $10/gallon, and diesels do up to twice the mpg! which helps make it more bearable - although I far prefer the sound of a petrol/gas version.

Interesting - is there any reason for that other than mpg?

Have to say that I swapped my XJ 4.0I6 auto for a 2.5TD with stick-shift for better control offroading, and the GC diesel does have plenty of towing torque. But I still hanker for a 4.7 V8 - or SRT-8! - on-road

Hi, I have had this same problem occur on my 2.7 CRD Cherokee (broken c-clip). I have obtained replacement from jeep dealer, however I cant see where to fit it. I realise its been mentioned that its where the turbo connects to manifold, but would anyone have a picture of one of these fitted

Thanks

No quotes but...
MrBeanSketch: Another use for a snorkel out of water - avoid passing-out at the wheel of a GC.
New GC Accessory of the Year: Internal Screen blower\heater running off the cigarette point just in case the exhaust system fills the cabin via air-con
where is the c clip and a part no if possible

Fumes in the cabin? Contact the tower to declare an emergency and request a vector to the nearest landing strip. Descend and maintain 2000.

what.
