Default Front drivetrain questions

I have a '95 zj with stock axles and an np231 transfer case. I believe the front axles and drive shaft are live at all times and the transfer case is what's engaged with the shift lever. If any one can confirm this or let me know if I'm incorrect I would appreciate it

You're correct. On your ZJ the front axles and DS spin whenever you're moving.

Yep. Even if your ZJ's T-case offers the 2WD option the front end and DS will always spin causing drag. Unless something gets broken/disconnected/removed.
