Fuel Injector fuse keeps blowing
Greetings from a stranger,
I could use a little advice and second thoughts..
2000 WJ 4.0 4x4 Auto 230,000 miles
Low oil pressure at hot idle for last 35,000 miles. But that is not the problem. It has run great during all that time. Has been in 4-FullTime for the last two years at least.
Was idling down the driveway and it stopped running. Retrieved P code for ASD relay. Relay was fine, 15a fuse for fuel injectors was blown.
Replaced fuse and drove it fourty miles, then fuse blew again. Put in 20a fuse, it blew as I attempted to start jeep, did not actually start.
I tried again, 20a fuse blew. Not sure if it happened at key Run position or Start position, but motor did not start, fuse was blown. Had to get jeep home so I jumped fuse location with a solid wire. It started.
However, power was not there, I was parked in some sand and jeep would not move, it should have. Into 4-Low and jeep struggled to get out. Got it back on the road, into 2WD and drove two miles at 50mph. Upon turning onto my street from a stopped position, jeep struggled to get moving, like transmission was slipping, but motor was not racing. Felt like motor was suffocating, best I can describe it.
Did a bunch of Noggin Pokin, checking harness and connections for any damage and abrasion marks. All seems well.
Injectors could be original equipment.
Could new injectors be the solution? Is there something else I should be looking at?
Thank You, Steve

Could be a bad injector. Have you measured their resistance?

I’m sure glad nothing bad happened, had to use solid wire because the 20a also blew. Managed to roll to stop just off highway on side of dune at 25degree angle, had to get it out of there.
Never have tested an injector, just studied how to, then tested four injectors with meter set to 200 ohms. 27, 26.1, 40, 39. Something isn’t right..

Noticed when I drove it home that alternator is not charging.
Wonder if these issues relate to PCM.
P code is P1389. ASD relay. I swapped relay with another, no change.
Have had O2 sensor codes for years, never seemed to affect jeep. Codes refer to ‘bad heating elements’ and ‘O2 sensor short’. O2 wiring harnesses appear good.
