Gauges & Switches (Window, Locks, Etc.) Die when Headlights are On
Hey Jeep Fam,
Figured I'd get some input and advice from the Community on an Electrical issue with a "new" WJ I just picked up. Just purchased a 2001 Grand Cherokee and when I switch the headlights on (even switching to just Running Lights), all my Gauges (Tach, Speedo, Gas, Oil Pressure, the whole shabang) cease to work, all the indicator lights on the dash pop on, and I lose all power and response to my Window Switches, as well. No effect on the Radio (aftermarket) and no performance issues as it continues to run and drive just damn fine. The dash does stay illuminated, btw. It is just an inconvenience. My cursory guess is perhaps a Ground issue but I haven't checked the harness or ran the Multimeter yet to chase down this electrical gremlin.
I'm curious if anyone has experienced this or similar issue with their GC. Also any input and advice would be greatly appreciated before I jump in to start tracing this down. Thanks, y'all!

Today I got the chance to look around in the manual at the wiring diagrams. I think I may have an idea of what's happening. First I'll remind you that this is only my opinion and I may not always be right but I'm never wrong .
The problem is down to one of two things (well, three actually) and the common thread is the circuit with signal_name "HEADLAMP SWITCH RETURN". This signal is found at the LEFT MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH (connector pin 4) and BODY CONTROL MODULE (connector C1 pin 16), so those are the two devices where either of which might be at fault. The third thing could be the interconnect wiring and/or a connector pin itself - for that simple reason I would start by disconnecting and reconnecting each of the two connectors involved. It never hurts to use electrical connector contact cleaner while in the process. If that doesn't resolve the condition then the Multi-Function switch or BCM need a deeper dive. Happy connector clicking!
