Jack! would that new daniel or yukon? Keep talking cuz the more you get into this the more I like the thread! After reading ask the posts I missed, I have to agree. Sounds like a sticking solenoid or worse. get it checked and lets hope it's not too far gone for a cheap fix.

try this
Just read a post where the sticking overdrive would give the same symptom you have. Turned the o/d off and it ran w/o problem. HTH

Just chiming in here. It is NOT and CANNOT be a viscous coupler issue. By design of the transfer case, the only two ways the VC can fail is in "open"(no drive to front axle) or "closed" (always stuck in 4x4.) The rear axle is driven by a solid shaft, therefor you will never lose power to the rear axle. This is no doubt a transmission issue, hope it all works out.

Next time this happens, try shifting it manual. Could be the TCM going into limp mode causing it to start out in 3rd, making it feel like it has no power. Shifting it manual should cause it to work right IF its a tcm.

If you do the transmission flush look at the magnet to see if there are any metal shavings or metal pieces at the magnet. This would indicate a failure that is happening. Also tighten the transmission bands. This task is often ignored but necessary. With the tranny pan out you access the rear band and on the left side of the tranny you access the front band. This may be the cause for the tranny acting intermittently. There is a recommended interval for band adjustment.
I just did the bands on a Wrangler. These bands had not been tightened since new. I could move them a good 1/4 inch. After the tightening, the owner stated the tranny worked like never before. This was a used Wrangler with, IIRC, about 140000 to 150000 miles on it.
You need to address this problem by looking at one specific area at a time and eliminating the good til you find the problem. The transmission would be a good start.

I'm kidding, but it is going to be really hard for anyone here to TS the issue, wondering if maybe a vid might help since we arent able to see what the problem is 100% based off your description and youre not telling us where you live so no one can really check out your rig(state not physical address....... but you can provide either ) so no one can really check out your rig. Make sure youre in the vid too... that helps us out a lot as well.
Please don't ban me....

Hey Danielle, Free is right I sure did have very same issue, and after tons of money and many pointless solutions, it turned out to be my Speed Sensor on my tranny. Mine was leaking and causing a short, sometimes it was fine and other times it was like I was in a rodeo, Took a size 10 socket thingy I think, but anyhow, its on the drivers side by the 4 wheel drive. Anyhow good luck with that tranny.
