Grand Cherokee rear axle, which one do I have
1997 Grand Cherokee apparently came with 2 options for the rear axle. the 194RBI or the 216RBA. How can I tell which one I have. I am trying to determine what parts number i need for the rear bearings.

For the 96-98 Grand Cherokee :
If it is a v8, then it is a 216RBA, also known as a Dana 44a.
if it is a 4.0 6cyl, it is a 194RBI, aka a Dana 35.

You do not have a Cherokee. You have a Grand Cherokee. It's not just one variation of the Cherokee. It is a different vehicle. Many things in common, but a different vehicle.
It even has its own forum.
