We started out at O'Reilleys Auto Parts and theirs was the first to fail, then we tried another one of theirs assuming the first was a defect, and it failed as well. The counter man at O'Reilly's had the local Chrysler/Jeep dealer send the oem unit for us to try. Turns out the oem unit was the same manufacturer as the O'Rielly unit (Stabilus, I think). The O'Rielly p/n is SG314049, I do not have the Chrysler p/n, sorry we did not purchase it. Next we went to Advance Auto Parts and the tried there brand (Strong Arm) and it failed as well. I apologize for rambling on as you simply asked for the oem p/n, I'm just trying to give as much info as possible.

If you want my thoughts on this, I think if you find one strong enough to hold the hood open on one side, it will eventually torque the hood enough to bend the sheet metal.

When I bought my 2000 WJ, the rear hatch would only stay open if you held it up for a couple of seconds and then released it. When I replaced the struts, I found only one was bad. Now, sometimes when you go to open it, it will stick on the passenger's side latch unless you hold it closed on that side while pulling on the handle, then it will pop free. I think the hatch is twisted a little, but I don't want to bend it back because I'm afraid of breaking the glass.

WAIT! I just had a brain fart! My rear glass opens separately. I could bend the hatch if I opened the glass first! I never thought about that until now. What a dumb ***!

I might go to an auto salvage yard and find a prop rod from some Asian car, there has to be something out there that will work. I really don't want to mess with installing two lift supports (unless I have to). This thing is really a nightmare.

Look for one from a Dodge Caravan. I think they are about the right length and mount with one bolt on the radiator support. You may have to drill a hole in the underside of the hood for it to locate into.

Nice, thanks for the tip. There should be tons of those laying around, since Chrysler sold millions of them.
