Default Interior Lights Won't Turn Off When I Turned Off The Engine

2000 4.7. This is the second time. My headlights are on "auto". They went off but the interior lights in the headliner/roof didn't. I did get them to go out but I don't know how. I just restarted it once, I pushed the two lights above the VIC on and off. Eventually, they dimmed and went out. Iam sure nothing I did made a difference. Can anybody shed some light on this issue? Thanks.

Even if you left them on purposely, the BCM would time them out in 7 minutes. IDK what else to tell you.

They go on when I hit the button to unlock the door on the keyfob. The normal operation is they go off after several seconds. Twice they did not. Last night was the second time. The first was last year. I don't know how long they would have stayed on if I hadn't noticed they didn't go off after that several seconds. My concern is if I hadn't noticed they may have stayed on all night and killed the battery.

The passenger's side overhead light in my jeep has a red bulb in it to give me light when doing my papers and I've left it on overnight by accident. The jeep was dark until I opened the door, then the interior lights came on as usual. After I started the engine, they dimmed out EXCEPT for the red one. That's how I know I left it on! I've sat in my jeep with the engine off and the parking lights on. After 7 minutes, they went off. The only thing that WON'T go off is anything plugged into the power outlet. The odd thing is the parking lights went off even thought the key was on accessory with the radio on.

Interior lights are on a timer, they turn off after a few minutes (7 seems about right) regardless of open doors, switch positions or keys in ignition.
I leave interior lights on frequently with doors left open, relying on auto shut-off.

I don't know. The wife said they were on longer than 7 minutes, but I didn't count. I did read the BCM turns them off after 7 minutes. I also read a failed BCM will not turn them off even after 7 minutes and I also read a broken wire in the door, the black one will cause them not to turn off after the usual several seconds. I have had that control stick on "Auto" the whole time I have owned it. My situation appears to be intermittent. Sometimes they turn off after several seconds and sometimes they remain on. I just turned the suckers completely off for now. Thanks.

Yeah, I have that broken wire in the door. If the door is open nothing works from the door module. If it's closed, everything works. I actually have 3 doors like that! My mechanic is going to fix them next week. He said the best way to fix broken wires in the door cables is to thread a new wire thru the boot, then cut and splice it into the harness at the plugs. Then remove the faulty one. That makes a lot of sense.

When I open the driver's door the interior lights don't come on until I turn the key on or turn them on manually from the dimmer switch. If I open the hatch or either rear door they come on normally. The problem with the passenger's rear door is the window will go down, but not up. I used a battery charger for a power source and ran it up, then left it unplugged at the motor. This happened in the coldest day of the winter!

It was the broken black wire in the door. I opened the boot, found the black wire and just pulled on it slightly and it broke in half. I just soldered another length of black wire in connecting the 2 ends. Was a *****. One side was really short and there isn't enough room to work with a soldering iron, much less a second set of hands. Sloppy solder job but it will hold for a while at least. It's unusually warm today and I typically favor heat over cold but it was pretty uncomfortable. As always guys. Thanks again.

Now we know to suspect the door-boot wires for these additional issues described with interior lights.
