Intermittent no crank issue
My son has a 96 4.0. He couldn’t start his car on Sat night, everything on the dash would work as normal but it wouldn’t turn over. Starter was recently replaced, but just to be sure I tapped it a few times to no avail. With his ignition in the on position, I jumped the starter wires and it turned over but wouldn’t start. Switched out relays - nothing. The next morning I tried testing the neutral safety switch and it wouldn’t start in neutral. Few moments later I tried it again and it started right up.
Figured it’s the ignition switch, noticing there was a lot of play and it wouldn’t spring back like it should. Removed the lock cylinder and noticed the rim at the end of the cylinder was broken off. I already had the ignition switch so I installed it with the original lock cylinder and it wouldn’t start. Figured it was the lock cylinder so put old switch back in and got a new lock cylinder. Car starts right up.
2 days later car wouldn’t start. Tried a few times- no luck. A few hours later tried again. After several tries it starts.
I’m trying to figure out what it could be now. Could it still be a faulty ignition switch that was also compounded with a faulty lock cylinder? Any other things to check?

Maybe a grounding problem? I'm not sure where all the ground points are but I'm sure someone has that info. Or the PCM connectors could be loose or dirty. Happy gremlin searching!
