Default Issues with Starting

I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. I am having start-up problems. I put new spark plugs in, then found out about all of DCJ TPIM issues. I then installed a rebuilt one from Mak's TPIM Repair & Rebuild. Still does not fire right up every time. There are 2 types of restarts that Mak's suggests. I did the "soft" re-set. Electrically, everything seemed to be working right after I started the car up. I called Mak's and they were surprised that I was having further problems. I asked them if the "hard" re-start would make any difference and they said they doubted it.

I would appreciate any input from people that have gone through this.

Thank you,
Rayzor

Here is the problem with many more modern vehicles with how they are being built. What used to be a sub-$5.** part is a whole integrated overly complex and expensive issue nowadays. I am not sure what you paid for your replacement TIPM? Probably too much compared to a simple relay though... What is it $1000.00 for a new one of these?

Is it the fuel pump not operating correctly? Do you know is it the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) Fuel Pump Relay causing the issue? Whatever you do.. do not let someone try and tell you it is the fuel pump and/or the TIPM, and then have them charge you for expensive parts and costly labor charges. Especially, a shady mechanic or his business! The dealer would probably be less apt to scam you of your cash vs the bad independent mechanic. However, neither of them may actually have a clue. A bad independent mechanic may tell you that they changed out the fuel pump and the TIPM and charge you for the expensive repairs.. when they in all actuality did nothing of the sort except for maybe pulling the board and spending a little more than five minutes to solder on a new fuel pump relay to fix the issue (to be aware of..). I do not trust them, obviously.

You can test for the issue whatever it is. I am guessing it to be with fueling, in particular; the fuel pump is not turning on proper. The TIPM Fuel Pump Relay most likely is what it is since there is the not starting correctly deal how it is happening. Maybe not, but most likely it is...

Find the fuel pump relay fuse of the TIPM and pull it out. Jumper with a jumper wire the two terminals here and ground this jumper wire to the chassis with a multimeter and see what it is doing. Probably it either does not come on any at all. Or, it is weakly flickering the power on and off being sent to the fuel pump is what is happening.

For further verification testing purposes, you can use two jumper wires putting them oriented correctly and running them to the terminals of any of the always on hot fuse supplies. There should even be one not normally in service being used to do this. You should be able to hear the fuel pump continually prime when doing this in this way to properly complete the circuit.

After you have the issue verified like this to know what it is.. you can then go and bypass the whole TIPM Fuel Pump Relay to inexpensively repair the fault which is occuring. Or, solder in a new Fuel Pump Relay.

If that is what it is?
