loose trans shifter - possible fix??
my auto shifter is loose (side to side and forward and back) and does not feel firm. it shifts in and out of the gears fine so its more of an annoyance than a functional issue. i thought the rod may have been loose but after a recent visit to a junk yard i could see that the rod is welded onto a bracket and that bracket is pinned to another bracket which mounts to the jeep. i noticed the other shifters in the JY were also loose like mine (i was looking for a replacement) and they all moved at the pinned joint. assuming others are like this, is there a fix?
if not...I was thinking of picking up a shifter from the JY, then removing the pins and bolt it back in or possibly add in bearings, or axle, or something else that allows it to move but not wiggle around. any thoughts?
