Default Maintenance Recommendations

Well I'm probably getting a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee this weekend. Its the 6cly with auto trans 4X4 with 92k on the odometer.

I'm looking to get feedback on things you recommend me do shortly after getting the jeep.

On my list:
complete transmission service (front and rear diff and transfer case)
Water pump, thermostat, and timing chain install.

Do you guys have any other recommendations on what else to do or where to get parts from. Typically OEM parts are expensive so I was going to get most of my parts from autozone with lifetime warrenties.

any and all feedback would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum I would definitely change the transfer case fluid as well as check the plugs to see if they look good and the gaps are good.

good call. I was going to get good oil in both differential cases. Plugs and possibly wires if they need it.

Anyone recommend any performance upgrades? Keep in mind, this will be a daily driver and wont see too much rock crawling. As in, a good exhaust, certain type of replacement bushings, differential covers, or just anything that would be good to replace while i'm getting busy.

Well now that I updated my signature you can see the list of things I have done. It really depends on your budget. I would start with trying to let the engine breath better. The throttle body is one of the primary restrictions. At stock it is 60mm at the top and tapers to 58mm, get a 62mm since this is the size of the opening on you intake manifold. This was done before I bought mine. The biggest improvement for the $ of my mods IMO was the air intake. The next was the catback system I bought. There is a lot of restriction in the exhaust pipe where it goes over the axle. That would be a good start and will eat into your budget plenty.

Did that water pump make that much of a difference? I plan to get the water pump replaced anyway, so if it is a smart buy, might as well do it right the first time.

It's hard to measure the effectiveness of the water pump. It is designed to help cool your engine since heat is one of the hardest things on the motor. There was no noticeable power gain or loss. It did drop the running temperature slightly. I want to make my 4.0 run to 300k so when I make an improvement I always upgrade. jmo
