Were you completely lvl when you checked theo oil? I am not saying they didnt screw up... I am just saying make sure u know what is going on b4 you point fingers. That is two people that are going to be fired, regardless if it is their fault or not.
No, I do not work for merchants, I just know how they work.

I used to manage a lube center. The one time a car left with no oil it was an xj. It was a calamity of errors that caused it to happen, but the oil pressure gauge showing 40psi when there is 0 oil didn't help things. Fortunately he came back and we filled it up with no persistent noises.
Most lube places , especially chains, will have insurance in place to cover replacement engines. Don't stop with the manager, go to district managers and corp offices to ensure they repair/replace your engine.

It is bull there is no way those gaskets could leak that much oil without you knowing it.
BUT something does sound odd about the whole thing. Know one knows how low the oil really was. If it wasent on the dip stick, it might of only been two quarts low. Bad enough but probably not bad enough to cause that. I think you would have loss of power first from the lifters running out of oil.
The motor really needs torn down to see what happened. Thats the only way anyone will ever know.
