Minor pia issue with new 2014 GC
I've been a lurker here for several months & finally pulled the trigger last week on a new diesel. I've picked up a lot of useful info here & hope someone can shed some light on this.
It came with the Nav Uconnect unit. It seems when the vehicle is stopped & parked for more than an hour or so it 'loses' its climate control settings. I end up having to go into the touchcscreen menus & reprogramming the desired settings. For short errand runs it seems ok. Its just an annoyance & wonder if anyone else has had this issue? Any ideas?

I'm just venting about all the useless electronics in today's cars. Creature comfort is expensive. My sister-in-law wouldn't know what to do if her Nav system went down!
Sorry. You were just a handy target. No offense meant.

lol - no offense taken.
I have to tell you I don't miss those days of points & capacitors, mechanical chokes & steel dashboards.
The first motor I built in 1972 was a 351C with a 4 bolt main, solid lifters, mild cam, Holley 750 dual pumper & was ported, polished & cc'ed. That ~6 liter 'monster' put out an estimated 400 hp. The 2.5 liter 4 banger in my Subaru is putting down 335 dyno'ed hp to the wheels (translates to about 450 hp at the crank).
What's to miss about the old iron?

I spoke to service rep a few days ago. Of course he never heard of problem. He is looking into it & will get back to me. . . A story I'm sure we have all heard before.

I'm going to relate to you a situation I got involved with at my local Jeep dealer and I would like feedback about what you think. I took my WJ in for an idler pulley because it was squealing and I didn't know which one it was and I needed the jeep for my business that night. They charged me $99.95 for an electrical diagnosis. I asked why the diagnosis and they told me every car that comes in for service gets one. Why the electrical scan for a simple mechanical problem? That's their standard procedure. I haven't taken this farther up the chain yet, but I wonder if it's a ripoff! This is a Chrysler/Jeep dealer in an upscale east side neighborhood.

Lots of people afraid of change and new technology. I don't know about yours but there are updates for the hvac module and the radio. They should have been done before the thing was given to you if it is that new but you never know.

It's not that I'm afraid of new technology, it's how much it will cost me to fix stuff I didn't want in the first place, just to drive it. Take this HVAC unit. Can you seriously think about driving it without it working? What happens when your windshield ices over? It was one thing when these accessories were just conveniences, but more and more these things are being integrated into the actual operation of the vehicle. Take automatic braking or collision avoidance control for instance. Or even ABS. Seat belts, air bags, and padded dashes have their place, but I would rather be in control of my own destiny, not the vehicle doing it for me. And aren't touch screen controls distracting to the driver? Now you've got me going! Just get out of the way and let ME drive. If I want to drive into a brick wall, I should have that option.
I know this isn't the place for it, but the industry is turning us into a bunch of sheep! Of course you want this. You can't get tilt wheel without cruise. Look what our car can do!
