Need advice!!! My Jeep is making a weird noise!
My 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee is making a high pitched sound coming from mid to front of jeep. The sound only activates when I accelerate and goes away when I decelerate. I’ve only had her for a couple of months now (since about April) and I would like advice on what this may be.

Hy, Luigi. Welcome to the forum!
That's really hard to say. I suggest you get a mechanic's stethoscope and try listening to the various rotating parts on the front of the engine. Anything driven by the serpentine belt. You'll be amazed at what you hear. A bad bearing will just about sit up and say, "Here I am! I'm the problem you are looking for!"
This might be more difficult because you only hear it when accelerating, but I think this is a good place to start.

advice needed
hi all im looking at two xj's ones a 2.5 petrol(sport) 1999 with 120000miles on it they want just shy of £2000 there is work to be done on it as soon as i get it to be enjoyable to drive. mainly electronics, windows, transmission.
the other is a 2000 model 2.5td(more desirable to me) ive got more experience with diesels but the guy wants over 6000 which is MAD and he wont budge on the price, only a few pretty standard mods done to it and the mileage is higher
i find myself more inclined to just get the petrol deal with the body frame and suspension electrics get the brakes sorted the usual you know. till i can get an om605 worked out to put into the thing. can i get some advice on the petrol 2.5 4cylinder, like to drive high low usability. common problems i may run into and general long term reviews and such cheers

thank you very much! I will definitely try to get one! However, unfortunately I recently had my bearings checked by a mechanic friend of mine because I use to have a truck that had a bad bearing problem. If it helps, my step dad said when he was driving her, he said it sounded like it came from the front of the engine but when I sat in the passenger seat it sounded like it was coming from front right to the middle of my Jeep. He also said it could be a bad vacuum seal on one of my rubber hoses. Any more advice you could offer??? Anything would be helpful ^_^
Locating sounds can be notoriously difficult. Go slowly in drawing conclusions. Don't rule things out too early. On the bearings, I'm not talking about your wheel bearings, but the rotating parts on the front of the engine: water pump, air conditioning compressor, alternator, idler pulleys, tensioner. Any one of them could be the problem, and a cheap mechanic's stethoscope will quickly tell you if it's one of them. One of those is the most likely place to find the problem, the tool is really cheap (10 bucks or less) and it's easy and quick to do. Therefore, that's the place to start. If not, then we move on to something else.
The vacuum leak occurred to me, too, but your engine would probably not be running correctly if you had a vacuum leak that big. So....., maybe, but it's not the first place to look.
To find a vacuum leak, start your engine and let it idle. Take a propane torch (if you have one) and turn on the gas, but do not light it. Now direct the stream of gas to every place where you might have a vacuum leak. Basically, you'll follow the vacuum tubing wherever it goes. When you aim the propane at a vacuum leak, the leak will pull in the propane, and the extra fuel will cause the engine to increase in speed. You'll hear it.

Still need help
Once again I need major help. My 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is cutting in and out. On some what long trips she starts cutting in and out and also shifts herself into neutral when driving. The shifting problem we think is just due to her transmission pan leaking because when we pour some transmission fluid in the problem stops. But she doesn’t like long trips, and I desperately need to know why. Please I need help ASAP.

What engine and transmission do you have?
If the trans doesn't have enough fluid, it can't drive the car forward.

It's definitely not a V6.

2000 Grand Cherokee blower won't shut down after car is shut off
I am trying to fix my son's 2000 Grand Cherokee. The blower will not shut down even after key has been turned off. The only way to shut it off is by removing fuse. I changed the resistor in the summer. I am looking to see if there is a power motor relay or blower relay of some kind that needs replaced? I have removed glove box and did not find a relay and fuse box does not have anything behind it. Please help or point me in right direction. Thanks.

On another forum a member had similar concerns and another member posted: 'My bets are on carrier or pinion bearings, most likely in the rear axle. Low rumble is carrier, high- pitched whine is pinion bearings'.
I had something similar to you happen a few months ago however it was when decelerating/coasting (low rumble). This went on for about 100 miles. Ended up the carrier was shot and eventually threw the pinion bearings/rear driveshaft and yoke dropped out when starting from a stop. So ended up loading the ZJ on a trailer to home then opted to swap rear axle to a D44A (from a D35) instead of rebuilding, its been good since.
