need a lil knowledge on what im working with
alright I recently purchased a 96 zj 4x4 5.2 and it has the full time four wheel drive transfer case....
im just wondering a few things and cant seem to find these specific answers anywhere on the internet
1. what gear ratio comes stock in this limited set up? 373?
2. is there an alternate Tcase I can get with a 2wd 4 hi and 4 lo set up?
3. whats necessary to do so if possible?
really that's the big 3 things im wondering
I had a 99 xj with the 4.0 a few years ago it was a beast will the 5.2 GC live up to that?
jw for any jeep vets that might have some knowledge
thanks

3.73 is typical with the 5.2. You can swap in 242s and 231s. ZJs came with 242 and very rarely 231s. The 242s are pretty easy to find.

The 242 will give you 2WD, 4WD full time, 4WD part time, N, 4WD low.
The 231 will give you 2WD, 4WD, and 4WD low.

So what is in there now from factory, and the 242
Is gonna bolt up? I'm just not a fan of this all time ****.
I'd much rather have the choice of 2wd when I want it
Did either of y'all have similar problems?

You most likely have a 249 and the 242, if it's from a ZJ, will bolt in. I used the same shifter when I did it on my old one but some people swap it out as well. You will have to adjust the linkage a bit but it's pretty simple. The XJ versions may bolt up but some ZJs have a different length input so that's why I suggested one from a ZJ.
