We'll I hope to go into the automotive industry preferably into off-road stuff hopefully like working on rock crawlers or trophy trucks. I also took auto shop this school year at the technology college for 3 hours every day and I learned a lot. I will also be taking it my senior year. I have pretty good auto experience for my age and u think I would have a job at a shop by now cause I am also student ASE certified but I have had horrible luck with finding a job

ASE certs will help you get a job and get you some extra money, but they don't mean too much to me. They prove you can pass a test, not if you have the skills and talent to get a job done correctly. Thinking of any trade schools?

At first I felt guilty saying no (we both have good jobs and are putting about $2-3k/month into savings). There's no way I'm going to get rid of my car and wait another 30 years before I get another.

30 years old. Newlywed. Wife is trying to convince me to sell my 2002 C5 Vette to increase our down payment on a house.

I totally agree with you but hey if I can do a little extra then why not get certified? Plus the tests were pretty easy. There is a school about 15 minutes away from me called UVU and I went to their automotive open house and they have one of the top automotive programs in the nation so I plan on going there after I finish high school. But I am gonna do another year of auto shop at the college while I am still in hs and don't have to pay tuition.

Cool! You can do all the book learning you want, but nothing beats hands-on experience.

I'm not saying UVU is a bad school--I know nothing about them. But being sold on a school that claims to be "top in the nation" doesn't do jack **** in the unemployment line.
Find out from shops and dealerships which schools they covet and roll with those. If it happens to be UVU, so be it.

Do yourself a favor and take your dose of marketing from employers, not the source that wants your money (the school). I'm not saying UVU is a bad school--I know nothing about them. Hey wait a minute..That sounds kind of shady! Good job on all the mechanics and welcome to the forum. But you should have dropped in a 4.0L so you could have a real Jeep

Excuse me, but that would have been a nightmare. Different transmission, different electronics, etc. Give the kid credit for a direct swap before you talk about a bastard implant.
