Hello all. I am new here. I have a 2007 grand cherokee limited and was driving down the interstate the other day and the rear end went out. Problem is, apparently this year model has an 8.25 Chrysler rear end with 3.73 gears. Everyone that I talk to says that the only place to get those gears is through a dealer and they are around 500 dollars which is ridiculous. Anybody have any suggestions or input on this situation or somewhere else to get them? I find that a rear end going out at 74,000 miles is crazy. Especially when it is my wife's car and has never been abused.

Welcome to cf... Well $500 isnt that crazy for a complete gear install on one end. There's alot of stuff that goes into that. Plus since its a newer car its not like you can just go to a junkyard and find your part. I guess you could try though....
You are right though how its strange about the car being so new and the rear end going out.... I worked at a Jiffy Lube for awhile and from being there awhile I know that different gear box's take different fluid. Is it possible someone could have serviced your car and put the wrong fluid in? That could lead to a problem like the one your having. Just a guess.
