Default New Owner 2006 WK issues !

Hi there ! First post so here goes !

Just got a 2006 jeep GC 3.0 CRD. 100,000 miles .

Im recently having issues resulting in “service four whee drive” coming up . Now before I continue a back history of the vehicle its in really good condition and has been checked over by a mechanic who said its in really good nick and had been looked after by the one previously owner (no rust ect) . However it had been sat UNUSED for 3/4 years only having a few miles put on it in that time .

The issue .

It wont go into 4 low at all . No matter what . Says service 4x4 or just wont do anything at all.

Issue 2 started today . When started from cold (0-6 degrees currently) , when put into drive or reverse it wont move . You can rev it but the RPM wont even go up at all (almost feels like resistance from the front) . But if you let it warm up or it’s already warm it will run in four wheel drive no issue and change gears smooth as butter....

Also noticed for the first 1-2 metres when you first get going especially when turning the wheel it feels like theres a grinding / resistance coming from
the front end . Again this will totally go when the car is warm .

Im not sure of the service history so cant tell if its got oils ect that really need changing such as transfer case oil ect. Could this cause 4x4 low not to engage and explain the non movement until its warmed up ?

Any help would be appreciated!

On our old '05 Grand Cherokee (we had a 4.7L V8 Laredo 4X4 with the Quadra-Trac II transfer case), we would occasionally get the same warning message. I remember there was some TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) regarding to reprogramming the transfer case (4WD system) because the Neutral (N) lever was causing problems. Of course, the issue we had occurred a few years after we had the TSB addressed. You might want to see if that TSB was completed on your particular Jeep, and if not, have it addressed.
