Default Newbe here with some ????? s

Hey all, I'm a new be here and fairly new to my Wifes 05 Grand Cherokee. I have a few tec questions along with some other issues the car is having.

First here is what she has...... 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2x4 auto tranny "not sure the motor size i will look tomorrow" with 145k.

Its been a great car she has had it since 06 and it has had no prolbems till recently. Seems as electrical gremlins are popping up as will with some motor bugs also.

so i guess i will go in order with some questions i have.....

1. How do i pull the DTC by using the digital display ? " I watched a you tube vid and it said to cycle the key like 8times and end with it in the run pos on the 8th cycle, then the codes will come up on the display. I did it several times as directed and nothing just C/T. It should at least say NO DTC or DONE. But i get nothing. It has to have a soft code at least because of below 2 and 3. Probably some hard codes also due to a check engine light every now and again.

2. Her ABS light will come on randomly every now and again and the display will say "service electric brake system". Some times it will come on then go off and some times it will just stay on.

3. The Tire light comes on randomly also. I believe the sensors in the valve stem(s) are bad.... Any ideas?

4. When you stick the key in the ignition and cycle it to on but not run the wipers make a sweep then stop. Start the car drive and when you shut it off the wipers make a cycle then stop.

5. She was driving today and said when she stopped at a red light it started running rough like it was starving for fuel almost. She said it sounded like it was going to cut off.

6. This is weird... her "LIER" or the display that tells her MPG's normally says 18-20 mpg. She drives the same route to work 5 days a week to work and home. Its been like this for the past few years. A few months back it dropped to like 15-17 and now its saying 8.5-10. Tire pressure is good but the skipping and missing like mentioned above in #5 might have something todo with it. I think i did plugs and wires a few years ago but don't remember. The 02 sensors have never been replaced to my knowledge unless the PO did them before 60k.

Sorry for all the different topics just trying to get a general idea on these. If i need to post separate threads for each not a problem i can and probably should.
I do have Auto Enginunity software but for Fords only. I just can't justify spending the extra 200$ for the Dodge Chrystler Jeep Bundle yet if i can at least pull the codes from the dash display to trouble shoot some of these issues.

Thanks for all the help and insight.

To get the codes all you have to do is start it in the off position and then go on, off, on, off and then leave it on. It should spit out codes on the odometer. This link below is for a 2007, but it should work for an 05 - if you need a visual aid. I have a 96 and you still pull codes the same way. If it was a few years ago it wouldn't hurt to do another tune-up either.

Once you get the trouble codes, you'll have a better handle on your problems. I would suggest cleaning your throttle body, the throttle position sensor, and the idle air sensor. Check all your vacuum hoses and fittings for cracks and change the 02 sensors. Also, how old are the spark plugs? Check the coil packs for cracked or burnt boots where they fit on the plugs. Also you might want to run some injector cleaner through the system.

For the Throttle body and related sensors cleaning them.... Any one have a good link or write up for this that might give me some direction on what to use and not to use to clean them and the procedure ?

If the 02 sensors are bad they should come up on the DTC correct ?

What would be good plugs to put in. Or what should i stay away from

I will be doing all plugs wires etc soon as i find out what the best parts are.

Thanks for all the input y'all keep it coming.

I know around here Autozone will pull your engine codes for free. Maybe check in to that in your area.

Throttle body cleaner and a clean rag/tooth brush should be fine for cleaning your throttle body and sensors. There's a ton of videos on YouTube that show you how to take all that stuff apart and clean it, it's rather easy.

As for the plugs I put Autolite Platinums in my WJ and haven't had an issue yet. Some may argue with me on this but I personally stay away from NGK plugs, more then once I've had misfires from brand new plugs that were bad.
