i just bought a 95 grand cherokee full time 4wd,i believe a quadra trac? and when it turn it seems i am getting some binding,its not clunking but it does squeak a tiny bit.i was reading up on a vicious coupler in the tc,could this be the issue?if so is it something that i can do?i am fairly mechanically incline and am no stranger to turning a wrech but when it comes to transmissions and transfer cases my experience is just pulling and replacing.thanks guys!!!!

I am having the same trouble. My jeep has it's back wheels jacked off the ground right now and everthing is in Neutral (transfer case and transmission) hand brake off but I cannot turn the rear wheels by hand. It locked up and tries to turn the rear drive shaft but stops at the transfer case.

How hard is it to replace the viscous coupler?

A 231 transfercase can be swapped inplace of the 249, you just have to check the spline count of the input shaft and the depth of the input shaft. Then you'll have a part time TC with 4LO 4HI, and 2HI.
