Np 242 rebuild needed?
While driving if I let off the gas than back on it I get a "clunk" sound that appears to come from the transfer case, like it has some play in it. You can feel it in the floorboard. The driveline is fairly new as well as the rear axle. Both were inspected and appear to be in good shape, which is what leads me to believe it's the transfer case.
Is this typical when a transfer case needs to be rebuilt and if so what part of the transfer case is worn?

Old fart with a wrench
Park it on a slight incline so there's some tension on the driveshaft when in park, then jack up the front wheels and try to turn the front shaft by hand. see if you get the clunking sound if the chain slaps the case. If not, it's probably not the t/case. You should also check for vertical movement of the output shaft, seeing as you're lifted. Or maybe transmission mount.
