There's another thing Gramps used to do. With the engine running at about 2000 rpm, slowly pour a glass if water down the carbeutator. It breaks loose all the carbon in the cylinders and blows it out the exhaust. It would probably plug the convertor if you did it today.

Ive used seafoam alot and love it. If you have a clean engine you wont get much out of it unless you use it in your gas tank and oil before a change. I have used lucas oil stabilizer as well on my older ford v8s. They had a pretty wicked knock before putting it in but not after. Its good stuff i think.
Ive got the same 5.2 in a 97 gc and its got a slight tick now. But after 218k miles im not too worried lol
