Oil Pressure on 4.7 H.O. low
Very new to the Jeep world. So I hope I ask this correctly. Fixing up a 04 Grand Cherokee Overland for my sons first car. Has 4.7 H.O. (if the H.O. makes a difference). It had some oil leaks. The person I bought it from said the oil pump had been replaced. I did notice a new pan gasket. Took it to a friends shop where he started correcting other oil leaks. He replaced the oil pan because it was leaking where the previous owner had beaten up the flange I guess trying to get the pan out. All leaks are stopped now but has oil pressure for a short time and then starts to lose pressure. Stop the engine for a while, restart the engine same routine. Did I read somewhere that the front fill tube was part of the oil system and the tube could get clogged ? Other ideas? Thanks in advance for your comments and help. BTW have been a GM fan but I gotta tell ya I like this Jeep. Plus I like all the things you can do to them.

John welcome to the forum!!
I also have the exact same model an 04 Overland with 4.7HO that model is very well optioned and the HO engine has a lot of power. My 4.7HO has over 200,000 mi. on it and had been well cared for by the OP, mine has the Up Country pkg. and towing pkg with a Class IV hitch and 3.73 gears. You can get a build sheet on yours from Chrysler with only an email and the VIN# very useful to have and free, you may be surprised at some options it has that you are not aware of. The 04 WJ's were the last year of the truly good Grands that had full axles
First off I would check the pressure with a gauge to get a true reading sometimes the factory ones are off some.

Old fart with a wrench
ALSO, according to wjjeeps.com, somewhere around 2002, they changed the oil pressure sensor to a simple slide switch that doesn't show true pressure, just 40 psi on the gauge. You might want to change that to a sensor from a 99-01. I went thru that with my 2000. I bought one from NAPA that only read 40 psi EVER. I replaced that with a Mopar one from the dealer and it read right. 4.0, 193K miles, 50 psi cold, 40 hot idling, 50 at 65 mph.
