Parking brake only engage rearwards

Parking brake only engage rearwards
My ZJ -98 with rear diskbrake and drum parkingbrake only brakes enough when the car i moving backwards , in forward it is just a smoothly slower braking and it is not holding car at idling when forward gear is engaged.
I have therefor changed both discs and parking shoes , making everything moving light and easy and put the things back together again .
But there is no change ,
What in earth is the problem ?

HI, Jan, welcome to the forum!
Did you adjust the parking brake shoes after you replaced them?
https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...ke+adjustment+
I have not done this job yet myself (I'm about to), but I have done drum brakes. On most drum brakes, there is a difference between the trailing and the leading shoe. If you swap them (which is easy to do), your brakes will grab in reverse, but do very little in forward.
I don't know for sure, but I'm wondering if that's the same thing here.

Hi and thanks for answer .
Do you mean that if I swap the shoes ( the 2 shoes is exactly the same in pair for left and right side) and there are no marks for e.g front / rear shoe , that there will be a better work in forward rolling when engage the parking brake.
It sounds unbelivable , but , in that case , it should have marks on them for ( front shoe , left side ) and (rear shoe left side) . Otherwise it would be impossible to change brakeshoes and make both side right with only 1 workingserie.
But , I am so concerned about this problem because in Sweden we have to have parking brake working properly , otherwise the vehicle not permitted to go in traffic , So , if I dont solve the problem , the whole car has to go for junkyard .

IF they are EXACTLY the same, then no, it won't help to swap them. On conventional drum brakes, they are NOT the same, so I was wondering if that might be a factor here.
But did you adjust them after you reassembled them?

Did you adjust the parking brake as Mark asked? On my Jeep I have to pull up on the parking brake arm in the cab 3-4 times to adjust mine. Pull it up as far as you can and release it a few times and then see if it helped.

Blueridge and TCP 64 , - About the adjustment ... I have not done what you suggest regarding the handling of "brake arm" in the Cab , so I going to do that today . Adjusting inside the drum with the " starwheel is done properly as descibes in the book.
About the shoes , - Yes they are exactly the same and can only be mounted in one way .
I want to thank you for your tips here and coming back in some hours and tell about the process.
