Part mystery! Protect Cap - Mopar 56054208AA
Hello fellow Jeepers. I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I just got a 2018 Sterling Edition Grand Cherokee WK2 5.7 L Hemi. I’m pretty excited by this vehicle. I got it at auction with only 17,000 miles for $24,000, yippee!
I have my front bumper cover off and I am installing a rocky road outfitters hidden winch and brush bar with front skid plate.
in front of the radiator where you would normally see the ACC sensor, I found a large electrical connector of some sort that was not connected to anything. It was just snapped in the center of the lower bumper support in front of the radiator...A bit surprisingly my car does not have a ACC sensor, or bracket and from reviewing the buck sheet and details and searching my Vin number I don’t believe this car was outfitted with Active Cruise Control...
however when looking up on parts diagrams I have identified this part:
Protect Cap - Mopar 56054208AA
Although I see this part in the parts diagrams online for the ACC sensor; on the diagrams, it doesn’t show like it’s connected to anything. What is this part for? And if I did not have ACC option that was factory installed on my car, why would I have this connector if the car was not activated with ACC ? Curiosity really has me. Is this part for something else? What is its function?

Thanks but...
very much appreciate the response, but it’s still strange… I mean but could it possibly be protecting? There’s nothing there there’s nothing around it there’s no wiring to it it’s just plugged into a frame crossmember just like a fender clip. There’s nothing coming into it or going out of it. It’s just a big electrical connector.

Here is a picture of the part! I can't take a pic from the car; I tried, but the bumper cover is now back on and I just can't get a good pic..

It's not unusual for car companies to use a universal harness to simplify assembly. If an ACC system is optional on your vehicle, there will be wiring for it.

Thanks.. that's the most credible guest so far.. but I guess I'll just let the mystery go... still find it odd.. the connector doesn't have a wire harness plugged into it or any harness near it... and no bracket for the ACC radar/sensor.. just this connector. Maybe a tech on the line snapped the connector in place, then realized that this particular unit was not supposed to get ACC and just let the car roll down the line and didn't remove the connector?
Thanks for the reply!
