I use an old sleeping bag for a pad when I do that sort of thing. I've gotten my belt hooked on stuff if I don't, and scratch the paint.
We did an engine swap in my friend's Monte Carlo once. It was white. When we were done, it looked like a kindergarten finger painting thing with all the greasy hand prints. With 3 guys working, we didn't scratch the paint either.

Hi Dave, Thanks very much for relating your experience with codes and the fuel pump. I have a feeling that one of the fuel pump replacements might have been exacerbated because of a dirty tank - since I read on a forum that such things occur due to a white substance that enters the gas when a pump fails. As far as funding, I'm a head of the game. After creating 4 non profits in 3 different countries I decided NO MORE NON PROFITS and I"m simply running the company with what ever I can make from coachings and audience proceeds. It is against, NON - profit rules however, we are not a non profit..more like a sub-non profit. It doesn't pay the bills but, at this stage in my life I really don't care. There's a lot more freedom in it, however, it does mean that what others do with money one has to be very creative and , yes, patient. We do belong however, to the competition so to speak if you're interested check out this website...www.nyoa.org - we are one of the founding members! Thanks again. ThomasT

Wow, I'm happy to answer any questions however, I've already received some responses demonstrating not everyone likes Tomes - and wouldn't it be off topic? to this particular forum - and I'm already in the wrong forum for my model car :-)!

No, you're in the right place. Maybe the moderators moved it. They do pay attention.

Thanks. I have a question about the IAC. It does not effect the Idle when the AIr Conditioner is turned on. It's supposed to raise the Idle when it's switched on. I would like to test the IAC for current, to see if its working. 1. Does anyone know what the voltage i( or Ohmage) for the IAC - the part itself. 2. Can we hit line voltage to it to see if the plunger is working? 3. Is there anything before the plug that controls the current - is it run through a temperature switch? or does it run through the PCM.? Does anyone know where I can get a flow chart (online?) to check the system. Thanks, Thomas

The IAC only raises the idle enough to make up for the drag of the A/C compressor. The best way to check it is with a scan tool. You can monitor and test the IAC with the push of a few buttons.

OK: First the report. IAC Changed. EGR working perfectly. Car running better than ever. However, when we took out the IAC - there was NO PISTON. We then took off the throttle body cover and discovered the previous mechanics - whom I asked to check the IAC - (BEFORE I had this issue with rough starting) - had epoxied a penny to block the hole. SO, the car would not idle but, as soon as I brought it to 1000 rpm it ran fine. Took out the penny, cleaned the epoxy, replaced bad gasket (which they had glued with 3M Glue) and the car is great. But, now I have to work on my brakes! BTW in case anyone is near me, the gas station in question is on the corner of Vanderbilt and Fulton in Brooklyn.

OMG! Brooklynn! I made it my life's work to get my wife's entire family out of there. I even had my mother-in-law living with us to accomplish this. They all love Upstate. I still have two of her sisters living nearby. I even got my nephew to move his family up here. He used to drive a taxi. Now he drives a school bus. They all came from Flatbush near Kings Highway.
I don't find it unusual for some mechanics to screw you doing things like that. I've seen EGR valves blocked off the same way with a strip of metal.
